If you ever feel like moving your career to shipbuilding is the right choice, you’re not alone. A few months ago, Bill Bailey of Calgary, Alberta was in the same place, looking to make a change from his old role in the Oil & Gas sector. This week, Bill starts his new career in shipbuilding.

The key to Bill’s success was acknowledging that shipbuilders need to get up and running quickly. Taking the initiative, Bill took the time to complete SSI’s ShipConstructor Essentials course before he started applying for positions with Canadian shipbuilders. He was able to prove to his potential employers that he had the skills they needed and was ready to start providing value from day one.

His success has prompted him to share his SSI Learning experience with past colleagues, some of whom are now also starting to complete the ShipConstructor training for themselves and start their careers in shipbuilding.

But don’t just take our word for it. We’re proud to share Bill’s success story and showcase his take on SSI Learning below.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to take SSI’s ShipConstructor course. Because of this opportunity, I have a new occasion to continue my career within the shipbuilding industry that I’ll start next week.

I’m an expert and proficient with many different CAD software platforms and have taken numerous online courses before. That said, I can confidently say that the ShipConstructor course is by far the best with its well laid out lessons and instructions.

It required a bit of an upfront effort with the introductory reading directives to get started. At first, they seemed daunting, but when I dove in I saw they were well written and easy to understand.

When I first started reading the “ShipConstructor Essentials,” I realized the importance of taking my time to fully understand the parameters of what I needed to know, which in turn answered some questions that were to come up during the exercises.

The way the courses are structured in the PDF lessons flows comfortably and allows a student to go through the program with uncomplicated instructions.

ShipConstructor adds many rich features to the AutoCAD software with tool palettes, drop-down menus, and extra features that optimize the power of the software. I’ll be surprised if some of the best of these options aren’t integrated into the regular AutoCAD software.

The videos were very helpful for the few times I was stumped, and if I needed some extra guidance, there are always many people ready to help on the online Nexus forum, which is really reassuring.

There were a few problematic tasks that frustrated me, but repeating those exercises a few extra times solved my dilemmas. Some of the tougher parts were a great brain workout.

ShipConstructor is a well thought out and intuitive program that brings out the best of the AutoCAD’s power and is a pleasure to use. It’s like AutoCAD on steroids!

Nothing worth having ever comes without some sort of fight. For those willing to put in the required effort, SSI’s ShipConstructor course can open the doors to a rewarding and interesting career.
